Nitrogen/Phosphorous Pestides from SquashAnother example of the ability of ILE Caps to extract directly from agricultural produce is the extraction of nitrogen/phosphorous pesticides from a squash. A squash was blended, the blended contents were placed in a 40mL VOA vial, spiked with a mix of nitrogen/phosphorous pesticides, and diluted with water to a 1:1 ratio, by volume. 70µL methylene chloride was added to the diluted sample, and a 24mm ILE Cap was placed on the sample container. The sample vessel was agitated for one hour by a mechanical wrist shaker to facilitate compound partitioning into the immobilized solvent (polymer). Analytes were then back-extracted from the immobilized solvent (polymer) into 100µL acetone to complete the extraction process. The extract was analyzed in SIM mode on an HP-5971 GC/MS with a 30m x 0.25mm i.d. x 0.25µm VB-5 column. The chromatogram is shown below.
