Diesel from Ground WaterImmobilized Liquid Extraction (ILE) Caps may be utilized to extract diesel from ground water. A 20mL water sample was spiked with commercial diesel and placed in a 40mL VOA vial. The sampel vessel was sealed with a PDMS ILE Cap, inverted, and agitated by a wrist shaker for one hour to allow analytes to partition from the sample into the immobilized solvent (polymer). The ILE cap was removed from the sample vessel and placed on high-recovery vial containing 200µL methylene chloride. This vial was inverted and agitated for twenty minutes to allow analytes to partition from the immobilized phase into the methylene chloride. The resulting extract was analyzed by an HP-5971 GC/MS in scan mode with a 30m x 0.25mm i.d. x 0.25µm VB-5 column. The chromatogram is shown below.
